Hey guys, I love sharing photography tips that have helped me. Well today I want to share a camera accessory that has completely changed my perspective of indoor photography. It’s called a Lightscoop and I was so happy to be given one to review. It attaches to the hot shoe of your DSLR camera. The camera’s flash bounces off the mirror on the Lightscoop and reflects the light off the ceiling. There are very easy to follow directions for how to use the Lightscoop here.
I am always taking photos inside of my kids or at parties, and this is an amazing solution. I have a mounted flash that I sometimes use indoors, but I like the Lightscoop better because it is less cumbersome, doesn’t take batteries and is so quick and easy to attach. It’s also a lot less expensive! I think you get the same-if not better effect from the Lightscoop as you do a mounted flash and diffuser.
All of these pictures below were taken indoors at night with no natural light, so an added light source was definitely needed. So I used the normal camera flash and also the standard Lightscoop. Notice the harsh shadows and shine from the normal flash and how the Lightscoop makes the lighting a lot more soft and natural.
