LIVING ROOM REVEAL

Ok, finally I am ready to post my living room reveal… it seems there is always a little something I am tweaking or changing. And even after I have finished the room, we still plan to refinish the hardwoods a darker color in a few weeks and I also plan to move that brown furniture to our basement. But for now, the room is finished 🙂 Above, you can see what our room was like when we moved in. It was a week before my due date with our first son, so my husband ripped up the carpet and painted.

I liked the room, and we kept it that way for about 5 1/2 years and I just thought the room was too dark. I tried adding new lights, but it was still pretty dark (I should have tried some Hinkley Lighting!), so I knew I needed to take some more drastic measures- like painting the walls and trim.

Painting the trim made such a huge difference. It was a lot of work and I know some people frown on painting over wood trim, but it is so much brighter so I am so glad I did it. I found these curtains online at Target. I looked EVERYWHERE for some curtains or material that I liked and these that had the lime and turquoise damask print on them were exactly what I had envisioned for the room. So everything else was based upon those curtains.

This table was left in the workshop in the basement when we moved it. I filled in some scratches and painted it. I just love thinking about how it has been with this house for probably 50 years. We keep the kids books in those straw baskets.
