My husband loves pie, so any time I have an excuse to make a pie, he loves it. Not many things are more American than a pie…except maybe a pie that looks like the American flag… 🙂 It is a great patriotic dessert for the fourth of July.
For the “stripes” part of the pie I mixed a can of cherry pie filling and about a cup of fresh sliced strawberries and pitted cherries. For the “stars” portion of the pie, I mixed a can of blueberry pie filling and about a 1/4 cup of fresh blueberries. To make sure that the blueberries didn’t mix with the cherries, I sectioned off the pie crust with some tinfoil. That allowed me to get clean lines to show the different parts of the American flag. I removed the tinfoil and then added some stars and stripes with the leftover pie crust. Then baked it at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes then turned the oven down to 375 degrees and continued baking it for 45 minutes or until the crust was golden brown.
